Hey..I am mostly african amercian,part indian,and i think Im also part white. I get my hair straightened professionally by my moms friend every two weeks,and all of my white friends at school think that its weird that I only wash my hair every two weeks.Why do they think that's weird,and how do I explain to them why I only wash my hair every two weeks?

Dont worry about what the others say. Washing your hair every two weeks is fine. I also have african american/indian hair and it does not need to be washed so often. A good shampoo and deep conditioning every two weeks should do the trick. Just dont add to much heat to it.

african americans have coarser hair and it gets dry if you wash it more often. if you do wash it more often, you will strip it of its nutrients. just tell them that. if you do start washing your hair more often, only do it like once a week at the most.

Yes, it is kidn of odd that you don't wash your hair regularly. Most people wash their hait more often because it gets dirty, and your hair doesn't have to be straight all the time, you don't have to wear it down. You could alwasy just put it in a messy bun and no one would know. Or you could get your own straightener and learn to do it yourself so you could wash your hair more. =]

you don't need to wash your hair more, i'm itilian and my hair get really greasy over night which most african american have a lack of and add more of themselves since the hair is so dry washing it to often creates breakage

I think that' about as frequently as you should. People of different ethnic backgsrounds have different needs, it's sad that the people on this site don't understand that. AA hair not produces minimal oil, oil is what makes hair dirty. Since AA people produce little oil, they do not get lice - lice feed on oil. Having lice is gross. Taking care of your hair in the correct manner, which you are is not.

Your White friends probably think its weird because many of them probably wash their hair daily to get the gels and sprays that they use out. The idea of their hair being oily is not a good one! I'm guessing that by professionally straighted you are meaning a hot comb or flat iron and NOT chemically straightened. Please understand that this is normal! I have my hair professionally straightened roughly every 9 days and I don't simply wash my hair daily because that would take forever and my hair would be SO dry!! I am mixed and in the summer i am able to wash and wear my hair curly when I'm short on time and $$ (you may also be able to do so it just depends on your hair texture and products used)

They may not understand unless you do your hair in front of them and explain that its a process that takes more than a few minutes and its easier and faster to wash it and condition it really well every two weeks than to wash daily!! Hope this helps!!
