How can I transform my coarse, wirey hair into shiny hair?

I'm white with red auburn hair that is rough and coarse (almost like a black persons hair) and I want smooth shiny hair. What products or chemical treatments would help? I don't mind my curls, just don't want them to look like a bird's nest.

While I agree with the Pantene bit (especially Ice Shine), I've tried several DIY hair masks that work like a charm...

I'm not sure of the exact ingredients, but there's an egg mask that's really good, as well as a mayonaisse one (which is essentially eggs anyways).

Good luck!

Wow, that's racist. Okay well I would use Herbal Essences. Either Hello Hydration, or if you want curls get the curly one, smooth get the smoother one, or so on.

Well you *could* have it permed straight, most hairdressers will do this. One of the best systems to use apparently is called the 'Yuko' hair straightening system.

If you don't want to permanently change the structure of your hair, you could use GHD's?

No over-the-counter product will change the coarseness of the hair (apart from perm solution!). This can only be done by literally 'stretching it out' which is what happens when you either blow dry it (remembering to use enough tension when pulling the brush), or you could use straighteners to do this (GHDs are the best). You don't have to end up with dead straight hair, you can have wavy hair if you blow dry it round the brush, or if you twist the straighteners 180 degrees as you pull them down through your hair.

I have curly hair and I either 'twist' it into ringlets with a conditioner/water concoction, to tame the curls, or I'll dry it and straighten it.

And the best shine for hair I've found is 'dehumidifier' spray by Lee Stafford, but don't use too much or it will look greasy!

Good luck!
