Curly Hair Problem?

I have really big curly hair.

I don't want to cut it cuz I look more stupid with it short but my hair is pretty long and alot of the time it get really big and it is hard to tame.

I tried using gel and hairspray to tame it but my hair gets all white and flaky from doing that.

Is there anything else I can do to keep it tamed?

Is there a hair product out there that tames hair into however you want it and it doesn't leave any flaky leftovers and doesn't make look greasy?

As a hairstylist I would recommend getting a hair cut. But if you want to keep it longer thats fine. I would say to get your hair thinned out alot- about 1" away from your scalp. Doing this will take the bulk out of your hair, which is just extra hair that you don't need. This will help to tame your hair and your hair will be a lot more managable.

The reason why you are getting white flakes, is because you have product build up. In order to cleanse the hair I would recommend Cleansing Cream from Redken. Then get a good professional mousse or gel. I would recommend the fresh curls line from Redken. It is specially formulated for curly hair. I hope this helps.

I recommend a couple things:

1. Frizz Ease hair serum: put a couple drops in palms and work through wet hair after washing and let dry (keeps humidity from making your hair "big")

2. Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Shampoo/Conditioner: Helps smooth hair and adds a little weight to keep hair tame.

I don't recommend anything with alcohol in it e.g. gels, hairspray. If you're going to use a gel put it in AFTER the FrizzEase Hair Serum while hair is still wet and use Redken Cat hair gel, it doesn't get super stiff or flaky!

Good luck!

I have naturally curly hair too. And I use garnier fructis curling mouse. It works better than gell. It makes my curls non-poofy. It doesn't leave leftovers. Try it?
